NASCAR weekend weather forecast for the 2015 Daytona 500

Although there’s a chance of rain for the Daytona 500, the overall weather forecast may surprise you.

Since 2012, when NASCAR raced the Daytona 500 on a Monday night, the weather forecast for the “Great American Race” has usually had the mention of rain in it. 2014 featured a long rain delay and a tornado warning near the track, while the 2013 race had the threat of rain all day with showers near the track it turned out dry. As we prepare for the 57th running of the Daytona 500, while the mention of rain is in the forecast, the odds of racing on Sunday without rain is very high.

It will remain chilly for today with highs only in the 50s but temperatures bounce back nicely for Saturday and Sunday. After what has been a chilly couple of days, at least for Florida standards, we will see highs this weekend back into the 70s and almost 80 degrees on Sunday.

All week I’ve had the mention of a slight chance of an isolated shower in my weather forecast. The likelihood of actually seeing rain shower Sunday hit the track is less than 10 percent in my personal opinion. This may be one of the driest Daytona 500 weather forecasts I’ve done since 2011 where there was no rain at all in the weather forecast.

DO WE RACE ON SUNDAY?
Absolutely, there’s very little doubt in my mind that we don’t start and finish the 57th running of the “Great American Race” on Sunday. Odds of racing on Sunday is 100 percent.

COULD WE SEE A RAIN DELAY SUNDAY?
It’s possible but highly doubtful. Odds of a shower impacting the race Sunday is less than 10 percent. While a pop up, isolated shower is possible, I’m not too worried about the weather on Sunday.
