NASCAR at Atlanta 2015 race day weather forecast: Delays possible

The weather could be wet to start the day at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but will the weather cooperate so we can get a complete race Sunday?

THE WEATHER FORECAST
All week long the weather forecast for Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway has looked less than favorable, though every meteorologist I’ve talked with agreed that while drizzle and light rain is possible, we still have a chance to race.
Today we will see areas of patchy drizzle and a few light rain showers through the morning. The wet weather will continue into midday and start to dissipate into the afternoon. I think this will be the opening NASCAR needs to run. Not only starting off damp but it will also remain chilly, temperatures during the day will be in the low to middle 40s.

EXPECT DELAYS
With light rain and areas of drizzle expected through at least the morning and into the early afternoon a delay to the start of the race and even delays during the race are possible.

WILL WE RACE SUNDAY?
While the race may be delayed due to weather at the start, the threat of drizzle and rain begins to diminish heading into the afternoon and evening. Since Atlanta Motor Speedway has lights, I give the odds of racing and getting a complete race around 60 to 70 percent. Maybe I am too optimistic, but given the data it seems possible. I will keep you updated as we go through the day.
