NASCAR At Daytona 2015: Coke Zero 400 weekend weather forecast

Florida in July is hot, humid with scattered to isolated showers and storms possible almost every afternoon and evening. But could those pop-up storms cause a big problem for NASCAR this weekend?

In all my years doing NASCAR weather there has been only ONE race weekend where I totally got the weather forecast wrong. That race was the 2014 Coke Zero 400 in Daytona last July. NASCAR is back to the track where the 2015 season started, and it’s my chance for a little redemption.

Weather in Florida during the month of July is hot, humid with nearly a constant threat of pop-up showers and storms each and every afternoon and evening. That is the weather forecast as NASCAR comes to down for the Fourth of July weekend.

The weekend is not going to be completely dry. Scattered showers and storms are likely to pop-up both Saturday and Sunday afternoon across Florida, we just don’t know if or when they will move of Daytona International Speedway.

At this point I give the odds of racing this weekend for both the Xfinity and Sprint Cup races to be around 65 percent. I think a couple of rain delays are possible but not certain; and while we could see a storm or two, right now I don’t think it will be enough to postpone the race into Monday. This weekend the radar will be monitored more than watching the racing out on the track.
