In a show of support for an injured Georgetown University football player, Hoya alum and NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Brendan Gaughan has placed a special decal on his car for Friday’s race at Richmond International Raceway.

“Get well Ty #2,” the message displayed on the decklid of Gaughan’s No. 62 car reads.

Ty Williams, a junior linebacker, suffered a broken neck during Saturday’s game against St. Francis (Pa.). He laid motionless on the field for several minutes before being transported to a local hospital where he underwent a nine-hour operation that evening, according to The Georgetown Voice. Williams remains hospitalized.

A former basketball and football player while attending Georgetown, Gaughan is prominent supporter of Hoya athletics. He made the basketball team as a walk-on playing for Hall of Fame head coach John Thompson, and was the placekicker on the football team, earning All-Conference honors before graduating in 1997.

“Thinking of my fellow Hoya this weekend,” Gaughan tweeted along with a photo of his car.
