NASCAR weather Darlington Raceway 2015: Could rain be a factor Sunday night?

Moisture will come in off the Atlantic this afternoon, and this could fuel some scattered showers and thunderstorms over Darlington Raceway Sunday afternoon and evening. While rain remains a threat for the Bojangles Southern 500, I don’t think we see a washout or a Monday race.

The highest chance of showers and storms Sunday is from late afternoon into the evening or between 5 until about 9 p.m. EDT. The big question is will any of these showers or storms even hit the track?

Scattered showers and storms are so tough to pinpoint because they are well scattered. For example, it would be like dropping a hand full of marbles onto a flat checkered flag on the floor and then trying to accurately predict on which square each marble would land.

I still think the odds of racing Sunday are around 80 percent or higher. While a delay or two can’t be ruled out, I think the Bojangles Southern 500 can go the complete distance even if it ends a little later than scheduled. I will be monitoring the radar as we get closer to race time and have updates as needed.
