Kevin Harvick confronts teammate Kurt Busch post-race at Talladega

Tempers flared between Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch following Sunday’s playoff elimination race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Upset with what he deemed unnecessary contact between them on the cooldown lap of the Hellmann’s 500, Harvick walked over to Busch’s car on pit road and leaned in confront Busch, who was still sitting in his car. Harvick then appeared to throw a punch at Busch before quickly being separated by SHR crew members.

“The final laps everybody is just pushing and shoving and then he cleaned the side of our car out after the checkered flag,” Harvick said. “I don’t really understand that.”

Busch finished fourth and Harvick seventh on Sunday. Both former series champions are among eight drivers advancing to the semifinal round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The two have been teammates since 2014, and each has a history of confrontations with other drivers -- particularly Harvick, who has been involved in high-profile incidents the past two Chase playoffs.

“[Harvick] has a misunderstanding of the call at the end of the race,” Busch said. “He will understand it and I’m sure he will clear it up in his interview. For us, we are great teammates. We are doing good together. We have to work together to beat all these other teams out there and he knows that.”
