NASCAR Sprint Unlimited 2016: Drivers, lineup and starting grid

The 2016 NASCAR season finally gets started on Saturday night, at least in an unofficial capacity, with the Sprint Unlimited exhibition race from Daytona International Speedway.

The 75-lap exhibition is the first competition of 2016, a week before the season kicks off with the Daytona 500. The Sprint Unlimited is comprised of all the drivers who won pole positions in 2015, plus previous winners or pole sitters of either the Sprint Unlimited or Daytona 500.

Kyle Busch, the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, won the Sprint Unlimited in 2012.

Joey Logano, who won the 2015 Daytona 500, one of six wins he had last year, is among the drivers on Saturday night, as is Matt Kenseth, the Sprint Unlimited winner in 2015.

Tony Stewart’s No. 14 car is allowed to participate in the Sprint Unlimited even though Stewart won’t race Saturday, out with injuries suffered in an offseason crash. Stewart-Haas Racing announced on Friday that Brian Vickers would take Stewart’s place in the No. 14 car.

The 2016 Sprint Unlimited will be televised by Fox beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night. Mike Joy has the play-by-play duties alongside analysts Darrell Waltrip, Larry McReynolds and the recently retired Jeff Gordon, working his first race for Fox.
