The 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season gets underway in earnest Sunday with the much-anticipated Daytona 500 from Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.
2016 Daytona 500 start time, TV schedule, radio and more
Joey Logano won last year’s Daytona 500, one of six victories on the season that saw him finish sixth in the Chase for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup championship. He will start in fifth position Sunday, trying to become the first repeat winner in Daytona since Sterling Marlin in 1994-95.
Logano was 24 when he captured the 2015 Daytona 500, making him the youngest winner of NASCAR’s premiere event, but this year the focus for the week has been on someone even younger.
Chase Elliott, just 20 years old, grabbed the pole position for Sunday’s race, thanks to the best qualifying time among all drivers. Elliott is the youngest pole sitter in Daytona 500 history.
The Daytona 500 will be Elliott’s sixth career NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
