What was supposed to be a routine Ryan Blaney press conference took a turn towards the peculiar Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway.
NASCAR driver repeatedly says ‘velvet’ during press conference
Ryan Blaney worked in the word “velvet” five times in just over nine minutes.

Perhaps either for his own amusement or to win a bet (the Sprint Cup rookie wouldn’t say), Blaney incessantly used the word “velvet” as he spoke with reporters. Altogether, he said “velvet” five times during the nearly 10-minute interview session and began laughing so hard after the third utterance that he had to stop speaking to compose himself.
Here is how Blaney incorporated “velvet” Friday:
-- “Hopefully, this race will go as smooth as velvet this weekend.”
-- “We just need to find a little bit more speed and a little bit more consistency and I think that will get our season back on track and we’ll be able to hopefully buy some new velvet sheets or something like that that will help.”
-- “The further you move up this track is really smooth, pretty much like velvet, and you’ll be able to find grip up there.”
-- “I just like the word, velvet. I had some velvet ice cream back there in the cooler and it was really good.”
