NASCAR penalized Kasey Kahne’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team Wednesday for failing post-race technical inspection Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

Crew chief Keith Rodden was fined $25,000, Kahne lost 15 driver points and the team lost 15 owner points. Hendrick said it will not appeal the penalties.

The infractions stem from Kahne’s No. 5 Chevrolet not meeting specifications while going through NASCAR’s laser platform station. The violation is classified as a P3 on NASCAR’s scale that classifies penalties from least severe (1) to most (6).

Kahne finished fourth at Dover, equaling his season-best result. The 15-point penalty drops him from 16th in the standings to 20th.

“I’m disappointed in NASCAR’s decision, but we have to accept it and focus on the upcoming races,” Rodden said. “We have a great team with a lot of positive momentum that we hope to carry into the summer.”

NASCAR also issued warnings Wednesday to the teams of Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Regan Smith for minor violations discovered during pre-race inspection. Also, an unidentified BK Racing crewmember was fined $1,000 for not wearing mandatory safety equipment.
