Kyle Busch struck a wayward jackrabbit that darted onto the track and into the path of his No. 18 Toyota during practice Friday at Sonoma Raceway.

The incident occurred in the second of two practice sessions, with Busch in the midst of a mock qualifying lap. He hit the rabbit with the front his car, causing moderate damage to the nose including the left brake duct, necessitating a trip to the garage for repairs.

As for the rabbit? Well, it didn’t end happily.

“That sucks, RIP,” Busch radioed to his team.

Busch told Fox Sports 1 the rabbit “came out of nowhere” and that he tried to avoid it, but when the rabbit stopped on the track a collision became inevitable.

“I seen it for a second, and I moved a little bit right and said, ‘Keep going, keep going,’” Busch said. “He stopped and turned, we looked eye to eye and then it was over.

“That was no fun. I am a Bugs Bunny fan, a huge Bugs Bunny fan, so that’s not what we intended to do today.”
