Kevin Harvick will be without his crew chief for Sunday’s race at Pocono Raceway, as NASCAR suspended Rodney Childers one race for a lug nut violation found on Harvick’s car following last week’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Kevin Harvick’s crew chief suspended 1 race for lug nut infraction
NASCAR suspended Rodney Childers for a lug nut not installed properly on Kevin Harvick’s car during Sunday’s race at Indianapolis.

Childers is the fifth crew chief suspended under a lug policy NASCAR revised in late April mandating all five lug nuts be applied and tightened each time a car leaves pit road. In addition, the championship-winning crew chief was fined $20,000 and placed on probation until the end of the season.
Stewart-Haas Racing will not appeal the penalty. Dax Gerringer, Harvick’s race engineer, will serve as the interim crew chief in Childers’ absence, with SHR vice president of competition Greg Zipadelli on hand to assist Gerringer. Zipadelli won two championships as crew chief for Tony Stewart, the co-owner of SHR.
Harvick and Childers won the 2014 Sprint Cup title and finished runner-up last year. Harvick is currently ranked first in points, leads all drivers in laps led and average finish.
