NASCAR docked Brad Keselowski 10 driver points and fined crew chief Paul Wolfe $15,000 on Wednesday after the Team Penske No. 2 car failed the post-race laser inspection station following Sunday’s race at Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR penalizes Brad Keselowski 10 points, fines crew chief $15,000 for infraction at Michigan
Keselowski’s car failed post-race inspection on Sunday.
Keselowski had finished third in the Pure Michigan 400, which he will maintain, behind winner Kyle Larson and second-place Chase Elliott. Keselowski remains second in the Sprint Cup Series point standings, trailing leader Kevin Harvick by 35.
Outside of the fine, the penalty has little impact, as Keselowski is already qualified for the Chase for the Sprint Cup on the strength of four victories and is currently tied with Kyle Busch for the No. 1 playoff seed. Two regular season races are left -- Sunday at Darlington Raceway and Sept. 10 at Richmond International Raceway.
Keselowski is the fourth driver penalized this season for having his car fail post-race inspection. Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth and Larson incurred 15-point deductions for similar offenses, while their respective crew chiefs were fined $25,000.
