Sunday’s NASCAR race will air on the USA Network due to the Olympics.
NBC Sports’ second-half portion of the Cup schedule typically airs on either NBC’s national network or on NBCSN. But with the Olympics’ first full day beginning on Saturday and broadcasted across NBC’s array of networks, that necessitated shifting the Watkins Glen race to a different channel.
Watkins Glen marks the first NASCAR race broadcast on USA since NBC took over covering the sport last year. When the Sprint Cup Series returns from a week break following Sunday’s race, the Aug. 20 event at Bristol Motor Speedway will air on NBCSN
Pole-sitter Carl Edwards will lead the field to the green flag, alongside Kyle Larson. Edwards is seeking his third victory of the season and first on the seven-turn, 2.45-mile track, while Larson is pursuing his first-career win.
Tony Stewart, who won on Sonoma Raceway road course in June, starts third with Matt Kenseth fourth and Denny Hamlin fifth.
