After 26 regular season races crisscrossing the country from Florida to California, New Hampshire to Arizona, NASCAR’s premier division heads to Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday for the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

NASCAR’s version of the playoffs sees 16 drivers competing for the championship over the next 10 races in a multi-round, elimination format. Every three races, four drivers will be dropped from the playoffs building to a virtual winner-take-all finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Start time: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 (yes, that’s the actual race name) goes green at 2:46 p.m. ET.
Distance: Drivers will traverse the 1.5-mile track 267 laps (400.5 miles).
National anthem: Noted tenor Jim Cornelison will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Cornelison is well-known for his sterling rendition of the national anthem prior to Chicago Blackhawk games.
TV/Radio/Stream coverage: NBCSN will broadcast the race with its coverage beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET. The network will also provide a stream at NBCSports.com. Motor Racing Network will handle the radio broadcast, with SiriusXM NASCAR simulcasting MRN’s coverage.
Defending race winner: Denny Hamlin took the lead away from Jeff Gordon with five laps left to capture last year’s Chase opener. It was Hamlin’s first Chicagoland victory.
