NASCAR at Daytona: The Clash 2017 weather forecast, possible rain showers

Showers may threaten, but it doesn’t look like a wash.

NASCAR is back for 2017, kicking off a new season with a new name, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The season officially kicks off at 8 p.m. at Daytona International Speedway with The Clash.

With NASCAR being back, the focus turns to the weather for Saturday night’s action. While not a points race, it is the first race of the 2017 season and NASCAR fans are hyped to see their favorite drivers out on the track.

The question now is will the weather cooperate so fans can see racing Saturday night at Daytona?

A weather disturbance over the Gulf of Mexico early Saturday morning will slowly work east during the day. This system could spark some scattered showers and storms around the afternoon and evening near Daytona International Speedway.

Not going for a washout here, but possible delays with a passing shower or two increased odds of racing to between 65 and 70 percent with possible delays.

The good news — this system exits Saturday night, and we have clearing skies and dry weather for Sunday’s pole qualifying for the Daytona 500.
