The NASCAR season gets underway on Sunday with the celebrated Daytona 500, but first, there’s a series of prelim races to determine the final starting positions. The Can-Am Duels are the key events that will fill out most of the field for Sunday’s big race. The qualifying races can be seen on Fox Sports 1 and streamed online at Fox Sports Go.

Most of the Daytona 500 starting field will be determined with the Can-Am Duels.

The Can-Am Duels are a pair of races that go 60 laps and 150 miles. The starting order is determined by the finishing position of last Sunday’s first qualifying round. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Chase Elliott earned the top two spots after that round, so they’re exempt from the Can-Am. These races will determine spots 3-38.
The first Can-Am race features drivers who finished in odd-numbered positions at Sunday’s qualifier, while the second race has the drivers who were in even-numbered positions.
These races actually have some implications for the Chase, as the top-10 finishers all get points counted towards their standing in the Monster Energy Cup Series. So there’s a lot more incentive than usual for drivers to do well in the qualifying races.
