The Daytona 500 marks the beginning of the NASCAR season and is the biggest event in stock car racing. But before Sunday’s festivities get underway, we must see some qualifying races to determine who rounds out the field in the Daytona’s final lineup.
2017 Daytona 500: When are the Can-Am Duel qualifiers?
Most of the Daytona 500 field gets filled out in the Cam-Am Duels.

Enter the Can-Am Duels, which air at 7 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1. The first race is scheduled to go to the green flag at 7:20 p.m.
This is essentially a followup to last Sunday’s qualifying run, where the spots from third on down get filled out. Since Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished top-two in the first qualifier, they’re locked into the front row on the Daytona race and don’t have to participate in the Can-Am. For everyone else, it’s a mad scramble to get the best starting position possible.
The Can-Am is made up of two races, both of which run 60 laps and 150 miles. The drivers who finished in odd-numbered positions last Sunday race first, while the drivers who were even-numbered go in the second race. The final times will sort out the starting grid for the Daytona 500.
This year introduces a new wrinkle, in that the top-10 finishers get points towards the Monster Energy Series standings. That means there is extra incentive to go hard and try to get a good placement this year to get an early jump in the points standings.
Fans can stream the event online at Fox Sports Go.
