Daytona weather: Could rain be a problem for the Cam-Am Duels Thursday?

Rain has already been an issue, will it be for the NASCAR Duels Thursday evening?

It wasn’t even an official race, and rain has already made its mark on the 2017 NASCAR season by washing out the first race of the season, the Clash at Daytona. Now that we are deep into Speed Week at Daytona International Speedway, our eyes are on the Cam-Am qualifying Duels (7 p.m. ET, FS1) Thursday night and the Great American Race, the Daytona 500, on Sunday.

Rain was around most of the day Wednesday as a slow-moving storm system crossed the state of Florida. That same system will stall off the eastern coast of Florida, leaving in the chance of isolated showers and storms for the day Thursday near Daytona Beach and Daytona International Speedway.

A few showers or storms could fire during the day Thursday but will start to diminish after 6 p.m. and towards 8 p.m. ET. There is still a very small chance of rain after 8 p.m., but at this point it is looking mostly dry for the Cam-Am Duel. Going odds of racing and getting both in at around 70 percent. Honestly that may be a little low but after the Clash, I am staying a little conservative.

The rest of the week and weekend is looking fantastic. Sunny and warm Friday and Saturday and a weak, dry cold front slides through late Saturday. No rain, but temperatures go from near 80 to the upper 60s by Sunday for the Daytona 500.
