NASCAR Coke Zero 400 at Daytona race day weather forecast: More chances of rain and storms

Showers and storms will once again pose a potential problem for NASCAR Saturday at Daytona International Speedway

Areas of showers and storms moved over Daytona International Speedway Friday night postponing the Xfinity Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 until noon on Saturday. This is Florida in late June and July, showers and storms form in the heat of the day along the sea breeze coming off the ocean and from other boundaries created by storms and showers. There is going to be the same threat Saturday afternoon as it was Friday.

What makes these storms so challenging is that they can move very slowly and you never know when or where they will form. One can form and sit over a location while just two to seven miles away its nice and dry and they never see a drop of rain.

Scattered showers will form in the afternoon and continue to increase into the late afternoon. We could once again see areas of showers and storms form to the west of Daytona International Speedway during the day then drift slowly east during the evening hours leading up to the Monster Energy Cup race.

Once the sun sets this activity starts to quickly diminish and end. It very well may be a late night for NASCAR if they wait or they could pull the trigger around 9 pm ET and reschedule for Sunday afternoon.

Like Friday, I think delays are very likely Saturday afternoon and evening. I am placing the odds of racing the Xfinity Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 at around 70 percent and the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Coke Zero 400 at Daytona at around 60 percent.
