With spring training in full swing in Arizona, Daytona 500 champion Austin Dillon took time this week to visit Los Angeles Dodgers camp in nearby Glendale, roughly 11 miles away from ISM Raceway in Avondale, the site of Sunday’s race.
Dillon addressed a Dodgers team meeting in their clubhouse on Thursday, then hosted reigning National League Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger and pitcher Alex Wood at the track on Saturday.
Dillon starts in 18th position on Sunday. Martin Truex Jr. has the pole position thanks to a Friday qualifying speed of 136.945 mph.
Ryan Newman is a two-time winner of this race in Phoenix, including last year.
Kevin Harvick has won it four times, including three in a row from 2014-16. Harvick has won the last two weeks but not without controversy. He was penalized after his Las Vegas win thanks to a pair of rules violations. He starts in 10th position on Sunday.
Mike Joy will call Sunday’s race for Fox, and will be joined by analysts Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Gordon and Larry McReynolds.
