NASCAR postpones Monster Energy Cup STP 500 and Alpha Energy Solutions 250 Truck series race until Monday due to snow. It’s a NASCAR snow day...
Will NASCAR have a race day or a snow day at Martinsville Speedway?
Although Sunday afternoon will be nice with sunshine at Martinsville Speedway - the snow from Saturday night was too much - we’re getting a snow day.

Reports early Sunday morning around Martinsville Speedway show an estimated 4 to 6 inches of snow on the ground. All the precipitation will have moved out by dawn and Sunday afternoon looks nice for a race day. Partly sunny skies and temperatures warming to near 40 degrees. With snow on the ground at Martinsville Speedway, the concern is not the weather for Sunday but the snow that fell Saturday night.
I’ve been doing NASCAR weather for 10 seasons, and I’ve seen a lot of different types of weather related delays. I’ve seen race weekends that had snow but not to the extent that we saw Saturday night and early Sunday morning at Martinsville Speedway. The answer to the question, “Do we race Sunday?” will come down to what NASCAR and Martinsville Speedway can do with all that snow that fell and the fields and lots for parking all those race fans. It could also come down to how roads and highways get cleared leading to the track and around southern Virginia.
