Could the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway have the same fate as the Martinsville race just 3 weeks ago and be pushed to Monday? Then it was snow at Martinsville, Sunday it will be rain, and we expect lots of rain all afternoon and into the evening.

Current Odds of Racing the NASCAR Monster Energy Food City 500 are 15 to 20 percent, are not very favorable. So why aren’t we giving it a 0 percent chance of racing? There’s not much good but if rain breaks up or comes in later maybe we could get started but odds of a complete or an official race do not look promising.

Cold front will start to spread rain and possible thunderstorms in over Bristol Motor Speedway as early as 8 a.m. EDT possibly. If that happens, most data is agreeing once the rain starts it last for nearly 12 hours and some showers could be heavy with possible thunder and lightning.

While most data is in agreement of steady to heavy rain once it arrives, it isn’t in total agreement on when it arrives. One has the rain moving in Sunday morning around 8 a.m. another around 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT. Either way the race looks like it could be delayed starting due to rain.

The data shows rain trying to diminishing and break up by 7 to 9 p.m. local time but not sure fans or NASCAR will have the patience to wait that long. Even if they do, drizzle and mist then become a problem.

As for Monday, if the race is postponed, it’s a little drier but we could have rain and possible snow at times. Odds of racing Monday right now are 45 to 55 percent.
