With the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Duke point guard Kyrie Irving.
2011 NBA Draft Results: Kyrie Irving Drafted By Cavaliers With No. 1 Pick
Irving played just 11 games for Duke as a freshman due to a toe injury suffered in December 2010. He returned for Duke's brief NCAA Tournament repeat attempt, and was the leading scorer in the Blue Devils' Sweet 16 loss to Arizona with 28 points on 9-15 shooting. He's considered a point guard in the mold of Deron Williams and Raymond Felton.
Given Duke’s propensity to keep star players longer than other top-flight schools, Irving’s entry in the 2011 draft was a bit of a surprise, especially considering his limited season. Fellow Blue Devils Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith are expected to be taken late in the first or early in the second round on Thursday.
