With the No. 8 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons selected Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight.
2011 NBA Draft Results: Brandon Knight Drafted By Pistons With No. 8 Pick
Knight is the youngest player in the draft at 18; he turns 19 on December 2. He’s considered a bright player with maturity and strong basketball IQ; DraftExpress lists his “best-case” comparison as prime Chauncey Billups, which is lofty praise. Knight didn’t have a fantastic regular season at Kentucky, shooting just 42 percent from the floor and 3.2 turnovers against 4.2 assists per game. But he had a good NCAA Tournament (including masterful clutch play) and good measurements launched him near the top of the board. (That so many top prospects delayed their NBA entrance also didn’t hurt.) Knight definitely appears to fall below the standard of previous John Calipari point guard products Derrick Rose, John Wall and Tyreke Evans, but he has the potential to develop into a special lead guard if guided properly.
