New Jersey Nets point guard Devin Harris will miss at least two games with a left knee strain, the team has announced.
Devin Harris To Miss At Least Two Games With Knee Strain
Harris injured his knee in Tuesday’s loss to the New York Knicks. The point guard exited the game in the third quarter after teammate Kris Humphries fell on him in transition.
Humphries explained that a miscommunication as the Nets went back to defend a Knicks fast break led to the collision:
“I thought (Devin) was going to go low, kind of cut him and break his rhythm a little bit; I was going to go high with it, and I just landed on him,” Humphries said. “You never want it to be you to be the one to hurt your teammate, but it happens, I guess. Hopefully he gets better soon.”
Jordan Farmar will take over as the Nets’ starting point guard in Harris’ absence. Farmar’s former UCLA teammate Russell Westbrook poses an obvious and frightening challenge for Farmar Wednesday as the Oklahoma City Thunder travel to Newark. Westbrook has made an awe-striking leap this season, becoming one of the league’s best players through 18 games.
It gets somewhat easier for Farmar on Friday when the Nets take on D.J. Augustin and the Charlotte Bobcats.
It’s not immediately clear if the Nets will recall second-year wing Terrence Williams from the D-League to help shore up the backcourt in Harris’ absence. Williams became a D-League pioneer last week when he was “demoted” to the Springfield Armor for disciplinary reasons.
