Two stars played brought their A-games tonight. New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire did indeed have perhaps his best game of the season, but it wasn’t enough as Boston Celtics guard Paul Pierce stuck a 14-foot jumper as time wound down to give the home team a 118-116 win. Pierce finished with 32 points, a season high, and 10 rebounds.
Celtics Vs. Knicks: Paul Pierce Hits 118-116 Game-Winner, Amare Stoudemire Scores 39
Despite Stoudemire’s efforts the Celtics dominated the paint, 62 to 50, and held a slight rebounding edge. Neither team played much defense, as both offenses shot over 50 percent, but Boston’s 21-of-21 shooting from the free throw line made the difference.
Ray Allen, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, and Kevin Garnett all finished with 20 or more points, with three other players also in double figures. Felton and Rajon Rondo staged quite a point guard battle, with both dealing 14 dimes.
