The Boston Celtics — behind double-doubles from Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Glen Davis — pulled away down the stretch to drop the Atlanta Hawks, 102-90. Despite getting little production from the starting five, outside of 26 points from Marvin Williams, the Hawks hung with the Celtics, closing the gap to just two with nine minutes to play. That was as close as they’d get as Boston finished the game on a 25-15 run to walk away with the 12 point win.
Celtics Vs. Hawks: Boston Pulls Away Late To Drop Atlanta For 12th Straight Win, 102-90
Garnett picked up his double double early in the third quarter, finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Davis, coming off the bench, had 18 points and 10 rebounds. Pierce went against the grain, using assists to round out his double-double with 15 points and 10 assists.
Balance was the keyword for Boston against the Hawks as all five starters were in double figures. Nate Robinson picked up 14 points and Semih Erden added 10 as the starters combined for 74 of Boston’s 102 points.
For Atlanta, it was all Marvin Williams. His game-high 26 points was about all the offense from the starters, though Mike Bibby did add 11 to the fray. Jeff Teague and Zaza Pachulia were each in double figures, combining to score 28 points off the bench. Josh Smith didn’t hit a field goal in 34 minutes of play, picking up just one point on a free throw.
The Celtics improved to 21-4 with the win, their 12th straight. The Hawks fell to 16-11 with the loss. Atlanta hosts the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday. Boston hosts the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.
