The NBA preseason kicked off today with four games on the docket. While the games weren’t premier match-ups, the league put together some interesting battles. Rookies Kyrie Irving and Jan Vesely made their debuts, while the Chris Paul-less Hornets took the court for the first time.
NBA Preseason 2011: Kyrie Irving Scores 21, Tristan Thompson Scores 11, 7 Rebounds
Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons, Cavs win 91-87: The Cavaliers kicked it off with a victory over the Pistons, as rookie Kyrie Irving led the Cavs with 21 points and 6 boards. In the loss, Ben Gordon and Austin Daye led the way for the Pistons, scoring 17 and 18 points respectively. The Cavs took a lead into halftime and the Pistons battled back in the second half, but just couldn't do enough.
Chicago Bulls at Indiana Pacers, Bulls win 95-86: The Pacers took a lead into the third period, but the Bulls overtook Indiana just before the fourth period. Luol Deng and Derrick Rose led the way for the Bulls in the victory, scoring 16 points each. For the Pacers, Tyler Hansbrough ended the night with a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Paul George had a double-double as well, with 17 points and 10 boards.
Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards, 76ers win 103-78: Rookie Jan Vesely got some good minutes in his debut for the Wizards, scoring 7 points with three boards and two steals. Andray Blatche led the way with 18 points in the loss. Lou Williams led the way for the 76ers with 19 points in 20 minutes, going 7-10 from the floor.
New Orleans Hornets at Memphis Grizzlies, Hornets win 97-90: Despite losing point guard Chris Paul in a trade that was finally allowed to go through, the Hornets still pulled off the win. Jarrett Jack, Paul's replacement, led the way with 24 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Guard Jeremy Pargo scored 15 points with seven assists in just 16 minutes.
