The Carmelo Anthony trade to the New York Knicks is finally completed, which means that we may finally start to see some action at the NBA Trade Deadline. Many teams were waiting to see what would happen with Anthony before deciding to make some moves of their own. Now that Anthony is finally elsewhere, expect that action to pick up.
NBA Trade Rumors Roundup: Devin Harris Involved In Many Trade Proposals
There are many more names floating around the rumor mill, and chief among them is New Jersey Nets point guard Devin Harris. Harris was a part of the Nets’ offer for Anthony, but now that’s not a possibility. Instead, the Nets appear focused to move Harris to whoever is interested in his services.
Al Iannazone of the Bergen Record reports that Harris’ days in New Jersey are “certain” to be numbered. Why? They are concerned that the trade talk has irrevocably damaged his commitment to the team.
The Nets are intent on moving Harris because they feel his level of play and commitment to the organization have been affected by being in trade discussions all season.
This has spurred a number of Harris trade rumors, including the following:
- The Nets and Blazers have talked about sending Harris and Troy Murphy to Portland for point guard Andre Miller and center Joel Przybilla, according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com. Such a proposal would save the Nets money and provide Portland with a player they have long coveted. Iannazone reports the deal could also include Greg Oden coming to the Nets and a first-round pick going to Portland.
- There was a rumored three-way swap with Denver and Dallas that would send Harris back to the Mavericks, where he began his career, with Raymond Felton and Timofey Mozgov, just acquired in the Anthony trade, heading to New Jersey and draft picks heading to Denver. However, that deal is a long shot, according to ESPN Dallas' Jeff Caplan.
- Finally, the Atlanta Hawks, who desperately need a point guard, have inquired about Harris, according to Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Hawks, however, don't really have much to offer New Jersey.
Other rumors out there:
- As noted here, the Nuggets, in a mild surprise, have begun work on a contract extension for Nene. This is bad news for teams like the Rockets, Thunder and Warriors, among others, who would be interested in him to provide more size.
- The Nuggets will, however, look to find a taker for Al Harrington, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge. Harrington's five-year, $33 million contract signed last summer will make that difficult.
- Will the Nuggets look to trade any of the pieces they acquired from the Knicks. General manager Masai Ujiri told Aldridge that they intend to keep everybody. However, Chris Broussard of ESPN reports that Danilo Gallinari is likely to be flipped to another team, with New Jersey, the Clippers, Cleveland and Toronto interested.
- In general, expect the Nuggets to remain very active, even with guys they just acquired, writes Sean Deveney of Sporting News.
- Despite all the rumors that indicate otherwise, the Charlotte Bobcats won't be active at the trade deadline, says head coach Paul Silas. Then again, the coach is usually one of the last to know.
- The Orlando Magic need frontcourt depth, but they're probably going to be quiet at the trade deadline because they don't have much left to trade, according to a report by SB Nation's Magic blog Orlando Pinstriped Post.
- Coach Doc Rivers said the Boston Celtics are "clearly" looking for another player, and they'll likely inquire about Cleveland's Anthony Parker, New York's Roger Mason, Washington's Josh Howard and Indiana's Dahntay Jones, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
- The Celtics did inquire about Houston's Shane Battier, but that trade appears unlikely, according to A Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England, because the Celtics don't have much to offer that can match Battier's price tag.
- The Toronto Raptors may look to parlay one of the first-round picks they got from Miami in the Chris Bosh sign-and-trade over the summer, according to general manager Bryan Colangelo.
- The Phoenix Suns will probably look to trade expensive wings Josh Childress and Mickael Pietrus, if anyone wants them, according to SB Nation Arizona's Seth Pollack.
