No Jazz Players ‘Untouchable’ In NBA Trade Rumors

No player on the Utah Jazz is untouchable, reports Brian T. Smith of the Salt Lake Tribune. With just minutes left before the NBA trade deadline, the Jazz need to cut another $5 million of salary -- even after the Deron Williams trade -- to fall below the luxury tax threshold. Utah received Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and draft picks in exchange for Williams on Wednesday.

For every dollar over the luxury tax threshold of $70 million the Jazz’s payroll sits at season’s end, the team will have to pay $1 into a fund that is then dispersed to team’s under the threshold. Currently, the Jazz are due to pitch $5 million into the fund. The only option to shed payroll after Thursday’s 3 PM Eastern trade deadline is to reach buyout agreements with players, but that will save only a fraction of what Utah would need to cut.

Andrei Kirilenko's expiring $17 million contract might be the easiest to move, if Utah can find the right partner. All other Jazz players have salary due beyond this season.
