The Cleveland Cavaliers nearly broke their massive losing streak against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, but "nearly" just gets you a whiff of cream rinse and contact high. The Pacers survived 117-112 as the Cavs had two bad possessions at game's end.
Pacers Vs. Cavaliers: Cleveland Crumbles In Crunch Time, Tallies Consecutive Loss No. 22
Cleveland trailed by one with 28 seconds left, and had the ball. Instead of calling a timeout and running a coherent play, the Cavs put the ball in Anthony Parker's hands. With 19 seconds left, the vet drove the lane and bricked a tough runner. Danny Granger won the rebound, hit his free throws, and put Cleveland down by three.
On the next possession (after a 20-second timeout, this one), J.J. Hickson fumbled a pretty decent drive-and-drop pass from Ramon Sessions, essentially ending the Cavs' bid for its first win since Dec. 18. The Cavs now stand one loss away from tying the '95-96 Grizzlies' single-season losing streak record, and two losses from tying the Cavs' own losing streak record, set in 1982.
The Pacers are 2-0 under Frank Vogel. Is this the year of the replacement coach?
