Marquis Daniels Has ‘Bruised Spinal Cord’ After Being Carted Off In A Stretcher

Boston Celtics swingman Marquis Daniels suffered what the team is calling a “bruised spinal cord” during the second quarter of the team’s game against the Orlando Magic. General manager Danny Ainge told reporters that Daniels will have a CAT scan and an MRI, and is likely to miss at least a month with the injury. However, he was moving his arms and legs and is fully conscious.

The injury occurred early in the second quarter, when Daniels fell on his forehead after making a move in the post on Orlando’s Gilbert Arenas. His head slammed the floor, and he stayed down for several minutes as his teammates, his coach and his fans stood silently. Eventually, Daniels was placed in a stretcher and transported via ambulance to a local hospital. On his way out, he flashed a thumbs up sign to the crowd.

Daniels has had problems with his spinal cord before. He was taken out of Game 5 of the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals with a similar injury, though not nearly as scary. He is currently averaging 5.6 points and 2.3 rebounds as a Celtics reserve.
