Deron Williams Will Miss More Games With Nagging Wrist Injury
WASHINGTON -- Deron Williams is out of the lineup for the Nets because of a lingering injury to his right wrist. Williams will sit out at least next three games, but it could be longer.
“Just don’t know how much three games is going to do so I just got to wait -- wait and see how it feels,” Williams said before New Jersey’s 1 p.m. tip-off against the Wizards.
The injury has given him problems lately. As coach Avery Johnson mentioned before the game, Williams probably wouldn’t have shot 8 percent from the field against Chicago on March 13 if he were healthy. He has shot just 9 for 26 over his last three games.
Williams suffered the initial injury as a member of the Utah Jazz back in January. The nagging nature of the injury likely led to the Nets to be extra sensitive. That and the fact that franchise has an eye toward next season.
“I think the future is bright here, and that’s what everybody is looking forward to,” Williams said. “There’s no reason to -- not saying we can’t make the playoffs, but it would be a stretch.”
Williams caught himself, but the message was clear. The focus in New Jersey is on 2011-12.
