When the Phoenix Suns look back on missed opportunities this season, three losses to the bad Sacramento Kings will sting. The Kings finished their season series with the Suns with a third victory in four games, taking a 116-113 victory in Sacramento. The Kings have quietly run off a season-high four straight wins, and have gone 5-1 over the past 10 days.
Suns Vs. Kings: Marcus Thornton Helps Sacramento Beat Phoenix For Third Time This Season
Marcus Thornton led the Kings with 24 points and 11 rebounds, but he had some help. DeMarcus Cousins racked up 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and in limited minutes off the bench Tyreke Evans added 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Beno Udrih scored 19 on just 12 shots, and Donte Greene continued his hot shooting with 18 points on 11 shots (including four of six three-pointers) off the bench.
The Suns led the bulk of the game. The Kings took their first lead of the second half with six minutes remaining after a 13-2 run fueled by Evans. But Phoenix retook the margin on a Jared Dudley jumper, but Thornton answered with a three-pointer. From there, the Kings hit their free throws to close it out.
Dudley and Channing Frye scored 21 apiece. Steve Nash had 13 points and 14 assists. Phoenix was already essentially out of the West playoff chase; all embers have now officially been stamped out.
