Heat Vs. 76ers: Thaddeus Young, Referees Lead Questions For Game 2

Game 2 of the Miami Heat's opening round NBA Playoffs series against the Philadelphia 76ers tips off at 7 p.m. ET on Monday. The Heat lead 1-0. We have five questions to consider heading into Game 2.

1. Can Thaddeus Young keep the pressure up? Young scored 20 points off the bench for Philly in Game 1, keeping the pressure on LeBron James and Chris Bosh in the fourth quarter especially, where he scored 12. But Young is a notoriously erratic player, liable to fall into a sequence of bad shots at a moment's notice. His defense can also be exploited; while he has superior length and agility, he seems like one of the easier defenders to deke off the dribble. On raw talent, Philly loses every time to Miami. That's why one of the team's most raw and talented players needs so badly to come through.

2. Is LeBron going to keep getting the calls? LeBron earned 14 free throws on Saturday, equaling his field goal attempts. James is, of course, one of the better foul-drawers in modern basketball history. But with Doug Collins making particular mention of the free throw inequality in post-game comments, and with LeBron struggling from the floor against Andre Iguodala, whether he can draw the whistles matters.

3. Can Miami hit any threes? The Heat went 4-17 from long-range in Game 1. Against Philadelphia, a skittish offensive team that won't hang 110 on you, that was enough. It won't be beyond this series. Miami needs Mike Bibby (2-7), Mike Miller (0-2) and James Jones (1-4) to hit better than a quarter of their chances. Maybe better than a third of their chances.

4. How will Philadelphia defend Chris Bosh and the pick-and-roll? With Dwyane Wade running the point late in Game 1, Miami shredded Philly with a steady diet of Wade-Bosh picks-and-rolls. Young had particular trouble here, but in general the Sixers couldn't handle it. Collins a great defensive coach. It'll be interesting to see what he tries, and whether it works.

5. Can the Heat keep Young off the offensive glass? Thad picked up eight offensive rebounds in 28 minutes, almost completely negating the solid team effort on second-chance points Miami put together. The Heat don’t run too much, so there shouldn’t be any issue with boxing out perimeter defenders like Young. Bosh’s offensive positioning has something to do with it, but the Heat are plenty big enough to dominate the defensive glass.
