Kevin Love Wins NBA Most Improved Player Award

As most expected, Minnesota's Kevin Love has won the NBA's Most Improved Player Award. The third-year forward received 400 of a possible 586 points to win the award over Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge and Golden State's Dorrel Wright, the league announced. Love finished with 66 first-place votes, 21 second-place votes and seven third-place votes.

Love wins the award after becoming the first player since Moses Malone in 1982/83 to average at least 20 points and 15 rebounds a game in a season. He also tallied 53 double-doubles in a row, a streak we haven't seen since Elvin Hayes did it 55 times in 1973/74. Love earned his first All-Star berth for his efforts, even though his Timberwolves finished with the worst record in the league.

Aldridge finished with 11 first-place votes, while Wright picked up 16. Derrick Rose, the likely NBA MVP, picked up 11 first-place votes. Other players receiving a first-place vote include Kyle Lowry, Russell Westbrook, Arron Afflalo, Wesley Matthews, Jrue Holiday, Roy Hibbert, DeMar DeRozan and Kris Humphries.
