The Chicago Bulls and the NBA have scheduled an award announcement for 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday. K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports that indications suggest the presentation will be for Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, considered the favorite for the 2011 NBA Coach of the Year award. But Bulls point guard Derrick Rose is the presumptive 2011 NBA MVP, and given that the press conference will fall during halftime of the highly anticipated Game 1 of the Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat playoff series, it could be either.

Thibodeau is in his first season as a head coach, and led the Bulls to an NBA-best 62-20 record. After serving as a longtime assistant coach under Jeff Van Gundy and then Doc Rivers, Thibodeau watched the Bulls' defense become the best in the NBA and helped Rose realize his considerable potential.
Rose improved more sharply than almost any other player in the league; in fact, the Bulls finished No. 4 in Most Improved Player voting. It's likely Rose came away with at least 100 of the 120 first-place votes for MVP; his closest competitors are considered Dwight Howard and two-time reigning MVP LeBron James.
