The New Orleans Hornets' defense has been the team's rock of fortitude all season long, and Wednesday was no exception. The Hornets held a strong Houston Rockets offense to below-average efficiency en route to a playoff-clinching 101-93 victory. Chris Paul led the Hornets with 28 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.
Rockets Vs. Hornets: Chris Paul Leads New Orleans To Playoff Berth; Houston Headed Home
Houston's offense was held to 1.03 points per possession, quite a bit off their standard. CP3 stopped Kyle Lowry in his tracks; Lowry scored just eight on 3-11 shooting, and didn't get to the line. Kevin Martin popped in 21, and Luis Scola had 16 points and 10 rebounds. But a lack of production from Lowry and Courtney Lee (0-6 off the bench) hurt too much.
The Hornets don't get easy offense too frequently, but Houston's defense is poor and CP3 was on his game. Trevor Ariza shot better than 50 percent! New Orleans survived a bad night from Carl Landry, facing his old friends; Landry hit just 2-10 shots for five points.
New Orleans is in the playoffs. What a strange ride it has been.
