Dwane Casey The Favorite To Land Toronto Raptors Head Coaching Job, According To Report

Dallas Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey just earned the NBA championship, and he may be on his way to a head coaching job. According to a report on Thursday evening, Casey is the favorite to land the Toronto Raptors head coaching job and if all goes well, he could be hired next week. The Raptors were down to Casey and Lawrence Frank, but the Mavericks assistant interviewed well and emerged as the front-runner.

The report comes from ESPN’s Marc Stein on Twitter.

Just filed to ESPN.com: Mavs assistant coach Dwane Casey has emerged as clear favorite for Raptors’ job and on course to be hired next week. Raps had narrowed search to Casey and Celts assistant Lawrence Frank but have zeroed in on Casey after interviewing both men this week

Casey has toiled as an assistant for much of his NBA career, only spending a short stint as head coach. The Minnesota Timberwolves hired Casey head coach for the 2005-06 season, but he was fired just a season and a half later.
