Dwane Casey is expected to be hired as the new head coach of the Toronto Raptors, according to Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News. Casey had been the favorite for the job, according to recent reports; Sefko cites a source that said Casey could be announced as soon as Monday.

Casey has most recently served as the top assistant coach under Rick Carlisle for the 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks. Casey was the head coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves over 1-1/2 seasons in which the team went 53-69. The team was 20-20 in the 2006-07 when Casey was fired by the Wolves as then-GM Kevin McHale said he believed the team was a playoff contender. Randy Wittman took over, and the team finished 12-30 in the remaining 42 games.
Lawrence Frank, an assistant with the Boston Celtics and the well-respected former coach of the New Jersey Nets, was reported as the other finalist for the Toronto job. The Raptors demoted Jay Triano after more than two seasons in the lead chair.
