Patrick Ewing has interviewed with the Detroit Pistons for their coaching vacancy, according to NBA.com’s David Aldridge. Ewing has been an assistant with the Orlando Magic for the past few seasons, and before that, he spent time in Houston tutoring Yao Ming.
Patrick Ewing Interviews For Pistons Coaching Vacancy
But since retiring a decade ago, Ewing has always sought a head coaching role, and the Pistons are the latest team to give him a look as a potential head coach. From NBA.com:
“It’s disappointing that I haven’t moved to the next step to getting a head coaching job, but all I can do is keep working hard and keep on preparing myself for whenever that opportunity arises,” Ewing told the New York Daily News earlier this month. ”A lot of people try to pigeonhole me into just a big man’s coach and I’m just not a big man’s coach. I’m a coach.”
It’s unclear if there’s a second interview planned, but in any case, he’s on the Pistons’ list of candidates, and that’s a start.
