Pistons To Offer Lawrence Frank Job As Head Coach, According To Report

The Detroit Pistons will offer Boston Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank the team's head coaching job, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. Reports had recently suggested that Frank and former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson were the two finalists for the Pistons job. Frank previously served as the head coach of the New Jersey Nets before being fired in 2009 as N.J. got out to a 0-17 start. (The previous record for season-opening futility was 0-18; Frank's dismissal was seen as a favor. The Nets ended up starting 0-19.)

The Pistons fired John Kuester in June after two lottery seasons. Kuester's tenure was marked not just by losses, but also internal drama with Allen Iverson, Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince.

If Frank is the choice, it will be the second year in a row in which Doc Rivers' loses his top assistant in Boston. Last year, the Chicago Bulls hired away defensive guru Tom Thibodeau from the Celtics' staff. Thibodeau went on to win Coach of the Year in Chicago and currently has the highest winning percentage as a head coach in NBA history.
