The New York Knicks held a press conference on Wednesday to officially announce their parting of ways with head coach Mike D'Antoni, citing differences in opinion with regard to the direction of the team.

Knicks chairman James Dolan addressed the media and confirmed that D'Antoni, as well as assistant coaches Phil Weber and Dan D'Antoni, would be leaving the organization. He also confirmed that Mike Woodson would indeed be taking over as the interim head coach. Dolan had this to say:

“I met with Mike Woodson and we agreed that he would take over for the remainder of the season. Mike understands that we will be reevaluating at the end of the season. Mike Woodson is a proven coach, a respected voice. I believe he can help us put together a drive to make the playoffs.”

Dolan was also adamant in his support of the Knicks players.

“I want to be clear: I believe in our players. I believe in our talent. I believe in their commitment to get the team together and to get this right. I believe that we have the talent and the character to help this team succeed and I believe these guys can do it.”

Dolan concluded the presser with a message to Knicks fans.

“The season is not over. This team can still be the team that our fans hoped it could be.”
