Mike D’Antoni has resigned from the New York Knicks, the team announced. He was in the final year of his contract. Assistant coach Mike Woodson will take over as interim head coach. The Knicks have gone 121-167 since D’Antoni took the reins in 2008-09, losing their last six to fall to 18-24 this season.
Mike D’Antoni Not Likely To Coach Next Season, According To Report
Citing a person close to D’Antoni, the New York Post reported D’Antoni is likely to take next season off due to personal reasons. D’Antoni’s son will be a high school senior next year. The Post also cites D’Antoni’s position on the USA Olympic basketball team’s coaching staff as a possible reason D’Antoni will take next season off.

Sekou Smith of NBA.com and David Adridge of TNT report that D’Antoni and Knicks chairman James Dolan met on Wednesday morning and mutually agreed to part ways due to “conflicting visions.” Aldridge goes on:
D’Antoni had reportedly fallen far out of favor with Anthony upon the star player’s return to the team and hearing about the proposed new direction for the Knicks and for himself.
