Spurs, Pacers Win Big; Grizzlies Even Series With Clippers

Coming into Game 2, many wondered how the Memphis Grizzlies would respond after blowing a 24-point fourth-quarter lead in their 2012 NBA Playoffs opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. In the end, the Grizzlies responded by being themselves, grinding out a 105-98 win to knot the series at one.

The Memphis Grizzlies are looking to avoid a 2-0 hole to the Los Angeles Clippers in their Western Conference Quarterfinals series. They lead 51-47 at halftime of Game 2 on Wednesday night, and have done so with tremendous balance.

But Memphis leading hasn’t necessarily worked out in the end for the Grizzlies, and the Clippers, of course, have been down by more in this series.

Way to cap things off with a flourish there, though.

Flop, then trip. Yup, pretty much.

But just as nice was Davis explaining why he felt the urge to break it down. It was emotion, he said, and sometimes a shot on the rim necessitates a little dance to help it along.

The lesson in all this? “Big Baby” needs to be on camera more often.

The Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic have been stubbornly resistant to playing entertaining basketball in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, a trend that has continued into Game 3. Indiana leads 44-38 at the half.

It’s very rare to see Glen Davis as an offensive force, but strange things happen in the playoffs. The Orlando Magic big man known to fans as “Big Baby” has 14 points in the second quarter, hitting mid-range jumper after mid-range jumper, and ... GOOD GOD, WHAT IS THAT?

The San Antonio Spurs tied for the NBA’s best record during the 2011-12 regular season, earning the Western Conference’s No. 1 seed as a result. In Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Utah Jazz, the Spurs are showing how they got it, and are up 53-28 at halftime.

On the bright side for Utah — which made 11 of 47 shots in the half, a scintillating 23.4 percent clip — there are only 24 minutes left in this game.

The 2012 NBA Playoffs have been fun thus far, but Wednesday night’s schedule has a lot to live up to when it gets underway with a TNT doubleheader. There will be a pair of Game 2s played, sandwiched by the third game in a series that very few people are paying attention to this postseason.
