2012-13 NBA Schedule: Rockets’ Jeremy Lin’s First Game At Knicks On NBA TV, Not National Television

Jeremy Lin's part in reviving the New York Knicks was one of the most dramatic, exhilarating stretches of the 2011-12 NBA season, and well deserved the "Linsanity" sobriquet it got. But when Lin returns to Madison Square Garden's bright lights as a member of the Houston Rockets, the game won't be on national television.

No, according to the 2012-13 NBA schedule, when the Rockets come to New York to visit the Knicks on Dec. 17, it will be broadcast solely on NBA TV, the league’s own cable channel, which few people outside of basketball diehards get, and on the local channels that serve Knicks and Rockets fans.

That decision's a really curious one, given New York's fascination with Lin and the potential for the game sucking up all the oxygen in the Big Apple on that Monday. The league is actually burying two very compelling games that day (the Thunder and Spurs play in a 2012 Western Conference Finals rematch, but it's not available on any national television) -- something that is sure to draw some ire from fans.

Of course, the first game Lin will play against the Knicks in 2012-13, on Nov. 23, won’t even be on NBA TV, instead falling into local broadcasts’ purview. Fans with NBA League Pass should be able to get that game, at least, but making it hard to see the most compelling games of Jeremy Lin’s career is definitely one way to tamp down on Linsanity.
