Dwight Howard injury: Lakers star out vs. Grizzlies with shoulder injury

Just when the Lakers’ disastrous season can’t seem to get any worse, it somehow does.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Dwight Howard sustained an injury to his troubled right shoulder and will miss the remainder of Wednesday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register.

The injury occurred early in the second quarter when Howard went up for a blocked shot attempt. When he came down, he appeared to be in obvious pain and signaled to come out of the game. He was 0-for-4 from the field with two points, two rebounds and one block before exiting.

The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and current All-Star missed three games earlier in the 2012-13 season due to a torn labrum sustained in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. While it was thought at the time that the labrum was completely torn, he was able to return in a relatively short amount of time.

The news comes as the Los Angeles Lakers are in the midst of a season of disarray. They are 17-24 and have had little go right for them during a year marred by poor play, unhappy personnel and bad chemistry on the floor.

UPDATE: Howard’s injury is not thought to be serious, according to reports.
