Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams remains out of the lineup with a sprained right ankle, and as the start of the regular season creeps closer, the less and less likely it looks that Williams will be ready to go for the opener. However, Williams is still holding out hope that he'll be able to suit up when the Nets face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 30, according to Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York.
Deron Williams hopeful, but uncertain he’ll be healthy for season opener
The Nets star point guard is frustrated that he hasn’t been able to return to the lineup.

There’s no definitive timetable for Williams to return from his ankle injury, which he suffered during an offseason workout in Utah. The star point guard has been limited in practice and is frustrated with the fact that he hasn’t been able to join his teammates out on the court this preseason:
“It’s frustrating having to sit out, frustrating having to watch them play games in the preseason. Really, practice, practice has been fun to watch; but also frustrating to watch because I can’t be out there,” Williams said.
“They’ve had a lot of battles out there, a lot of great practices and I want to be a part of them. So at times I feel like I’m not part of this team right now because I’m not out there, I want to be a part of this team when I am practicing.”
Despite his frustrations, Williams also knows that he doesn’t want to rush back to play before he’s healthy. While he may wind up missing a few games at the start of the year, he would rather do that than come back and then suffer a setback that could force him out of the lineup for a larger chunk of time.
Williams said that he would like to get in a few full-contact practices and some scrimmages before playing in game action. It’s unclear when even that will happen, so for now, the waiting game continues.
