Despite having fewer rebounds, a worse shooting percentage and just seven free throw attempts in the first 46 minutes, the Knicks’ ability to avoid wasting possessions defined the game. By committing just three turnovers, New York managed to put up 88 shots, making up for the many frustrating aspects of the team’s performance.
Hawks guard Jeff Teague alone topped New York's free throw total with 14 attempts, but he also beat out the Knicks' team-wide turnover total with four. Despite getting solid performances from Teague and Al Horford, who combined for 48 points on 18-of-31 shooting, the Hawks' defense faltered in the fourth quarter.
Both teams mostly struggled from beyond the arc throughout the game. During the first three quarters, the Knicks were just 7-of-23 as their perimeter-oriented attack rained down attempts, but the team found some rhythm by hitting 5-of-11 attempts in a 30-point fourth quarter. The Hawks, meanwhile, posted a dismal 5-of-24 mark from three-point range.
Carmelo Anthony and Teague led all scorers with 25 points apiece, though 'Melo needed 25 shots to get there. Meanwhile, Andrea Bargnani delivered another solid performance with 20 points and 11 rebounds, again quieting the angry masses in NYC for at least one night.
